All About The Maintenance Of Solar Battery

Solar batteries are no different-if any, they require very little ongoing maintenance, but there are ways to take precautions to provide your solar battery with ideal conditions and make them last as long as possible.

What maintenance do solar battery need?

How to get the most out of your solar battery

Depth of discharge: Depth of discharge measures how much battery power you used before charging. For example, if you use all the energy stored in the battery, that is 100% depth of discharge. Batteries with different chemical compositions are designed to perform best at different depths of discharge-the conventional practice of lithium-ion batteries may be harmful to lead-acid batteries. Work with the installer to better understand how much your battery capacity can be used at one time without affecting its long-term performance.

Cycle (overall and daily): Every time you discharge and charge the battery is one cycle, no matter if you use part, most or all of the energy before charging the battery. Many lithium-ion batteries are designed to be recycled every day, so you can charge them with solar panels during the day and use them to offset your usage at night after the sun goes down. Batteries often have a warranty or expected cycle, which usually cycles between 5000 and 15000 years. This is a big difference: the battery warrantied for 5,000 cycle runs once a day and is designed to last for 13 years, while there are 15000 cycles that are designed to exceed 40 years!

Working and storage temperature: Not all batteries are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. When designing a battery system with an installer, be sure to consider whether your battery needs to be installed in a conditional space, such as a garage or basement, or whether it can be installed outdoors. Exposing the battery to a temperature outside of its operating range will have a great impact on its overall performance.

To obtain the best performance of the solar battery system, the temperature of the installation in a place will not exceed its operating requirements (for example, it is not installed outside, if it cannot operate below the freezing point but you live in the northeast), you must follow the recommended operating procedures when using the battery (for example, do not cancel the factory defaults that could cause the battery to go to a greater depth of discharge or cycle more frequently than it is designed for).
